From the owner: It is always sad when an interesting and absorbing project comes to an end, even more so when the end is not reached due to external factors. This is the situation I find myself in, I bought a set of Tiki26 plans three years ago, purchased top quality materials from Robbins Timber and to date have completed one hull up to the point where it needs a final sanding and then painting. The hull has 8mm Perspex windows fastened with interscrews. Both hatches are covered in fibreglass and have 316 stainless steel hasps and staples for security, with the fore deck hatch on hinges and the main hatch on bronze sail slides. The keel has a 25mm x 5mm stainless steel keel strip for protection. The rudder is complete but not fixed, fastening points have been cut with a router and filled with resin and wood flour for water tightness. This hull is on a dolly having solid rubber tyres on a 25mm 316 stainless steel axel rod, it is a rugged unit built in 25mm ply for longevity. The hull is being offered for sale along with the materials for the other hull and most of the rest of the boat (I didn’t buy the lumber for the mast at this stage) and you will require more resin and maybe a bit more glass cloth.
This sale represents a chance for the new owner to get a head start in the construction of a Tiki26 and purchase the materials at cheaper prices than you could source them at today’s prices, when purchased the Okume Marine ply cost £953 and the Douglas Fir and Sapele lumber cost £645. I worked on the basis that 200 miles off shore in a gale was not the best time to worry about the quality of materials or workmanship.
I found that it took a lot of time to source the materials which cost £3785 and I have receipts for this amount which you will need to prove that the boat is VAT paid.
