From the owner: Wharram Hitia 17. Sail number 197. Built from plans between 1997 and 2000. Built from marine ply sheathed in glass cloth and epoxy. All surfaces clear coated with 2 coats West System epoxy. Hull sheathed in glass then clear coated with 2 coats then faired with epoxy and filler. 2 x coats white undercoat with 2 topcoats of International one-pack Bondi Blue. Hull, mast and beams all remain in very good condition. Cockpit hatch covers differ from Wharram recommended plans: mine are marine ply with cedar stringers and glass cloth sheathing. Hatch covers are held on with shock-cord.

Rig & rigging: Stainless steel forestay and shrouds, bridle and stays for dolphin striker. All these made to order by Jimmy Green Marine to dimensions in Wharram plans.
Halyards and sheets, X-beam/hull lashings = Marlow ropes
Stays, shrouds and all standing and running rigging is in virtually as-new condition. All items washed and dried after sea sailing.

Sails: Sails by Jeckells of Wroxham as recommended by Wharrams
Main sail = sprit rig
Jib is on RWO jib furler (this is not a roller reefin
g system)
NB. Sails look virtually as new. Washed and dried after se
a sailing and stored dry.

Engine: I have an old but serviceable 2-strokeMariner 2hp outboard - this is clamped to an ancillary beam running fore-aft between the fore and middle X-beams (a method described in Sea People magazine a few years ago).

Ground tackle/warps: anchor (flying flook) and rope (approx 30 metres)

Trailer: Home made with cradle system for hulls with mast, sprit and x-beams carried between hulls. Towing width is approx 5' 6". Trailer frame = part tubular steel and part angle-iron all coated with Hammerite. Hull/mast/beam supports = epoxy-coated ply. Condition good. Use has been light. Wheels/tyres/bearings all good. Trailer has never been in salt water.

More from Owner: Reason for sale is that I have not had the chance to sail this boat as much as I originally wanted or anticipated - no suitable local waters. With a youngish family I have gone back into small dinghy racing. I have enjoyed building and sailing the boat and am selling it with some regret. It would be a wonderful boat to have on an estuary or sheltered coastal waters. Sailing it is relatively easy and it can be sailed single-handed in light to moderate breezes. In stronger breezes it gives an exhilarating ride but remains safe and manageable! Complete set of original Wharram builders plans come with the boat.
